As an environmental historian, I unravel past entanglements between societies and the environments that sustained them. My current research investigates the complex and sometimes counter-intuitive ways in which a cooler, stormier, wetter climate in the seventeenth century affected human activity in Europe and the Arctic. Overall, my work reveals that the influence of climate change was - and is - shaped by the socioeconomic characteristics of different societies. Which helps scholars connect more easily .
